Since the U-turn question has been addressed, let me recommend The Pit on W. Davie St. in Raleigh for the best bbq I've had here. They have ribs as well. The bbq is pulled pork, chopped hog, and (I believe) turkey (I haven't tried the turkey). It's locally owned and operated and has been featured in Gormet magazine from what I understand.
They have a good line of beers to go along with it, too.
It's not as cheap as some, but I've been very happy with the food there.

I'm in New Bern now, and can't provide specific help for the Triangle, but a lot of BBQ joints will have ribs on Saturday, or one day a week, though their staple is pulled pork 'que. Our best place down here has ribs on Saturday, but get there early cause they are gone, early. Good Luck.

I've had the ribs at The Pit in downtown and I thought they blew any chain out of the water

Without a doubt THE PIT on W. Davie Street downtown. Best babyback ribs I've had...EVER! The pulled pork BBQ is awesome too. Very classy restaurant and the staff is great. Sorry I sound like an employee promoting the place, lol! Is just that I took my father-in-law who's from Chicago there because he wanted some authentic "NC food". He had collard greens, pulled pork and black eyed peas for the first time and loved it all. I was so relieved that the place was representative of the "good stuff" in NC. )
