Many lakes and rivers for canoeing, kayaking, skiing, fishing. Downtown Raleigh is in a re-birth with many new clubs of all sorts, fine dining, museums etc. Our population is well educated and there are many different groups you can become involved in. It's all up to you.

I have a client that moved here from Boston, MA, recently.
He has joined meet-up groups from one that gets together to view Boston sports to another that meets at the dog park, with their dogs.
Yesterday, he told me that he now knows over 200 people in Raleigh! He has 30 close friends!
So, it is all in what YOU do to meet people and how friendly you want to be!
