Hi, I could use some advice as to where I can start looking into reception halls in the Cary, Fuquay area and everywhere in between. My daughter is planning a March 08 wedding for about 90 people and she would like a "sit- down dinner" (not a buffet) with a cocktail hour. We are new to the area and would appreciate any suggestions. Thank you for your help.

Regards,
Barbara

Hi,
The Matthews House in Cary is an old historic home and southern looking. We went there for a small meeting, not wedding. But, you may want to look into it, I'm sure they have a web site.
Sorry, not much more help, but, we are very new to this area too.
When we went for the meeting I thought the place had a lot of charm & was thinking it would be a wonderful place for a wedding.
Good Luck!

Congratulations to your daughter on her upcoming wedding!
Sometime in March, there should be a Wedding Planning show. At the moment, I can't remember where they hold them now.
Since you will be having 90 people for a sit down dinner, I would suggest calling the larger hotels: Sheraton on Page Rd., the Hilton on Page Rd., the Sheraton in downtown Raleigh. Sisters Catering has their own building and have a good reputation in the area (they did my wedding but that was many years ago!).
Good luck and I hope this gives you a start!

We had our reception at the holiday inn on page road, I think the ballroom had a 6000 dollar minimum. My sister had her reception at the University club off of 15-501 in the durham/chapel hill area, and it was wonderful. I have known a number of people to have their receptions or rehearsal dinners there.

We thought about having our reception at the embassey suites in cary (off harrison) but our guest list was too big, although I think yours would work. The place is very nice and it was good to have a reception at a hotel because the guests didn't have to drive after the reception.

There is a place in fuquay called highgrove, their website is:
www.highgrove-nc.com

I would second going to the wedding show at the fairgrounds, they will have tons of vendors there.

Leigh

Fearrington Village in Pittsboro is a beautiful setting. It's not too far out into Pittsboro. Probably pricey but worth it.

If you can afford it, Fearrington House would be beautiful.

Oh and definitely do NOT consider the Wagner House in Clayton. They are incompetent.

Not sure how pricey it is, but we are going to a wedding in a few months at the Brier Creek Country Club. I am pretty sure it is a sit down dinner reception.

Default Check out theknot.com

Check out theknot.com for some great wedding venue advice:

(NC Local board - lots of brides, mother of the brides and bridal party members from the Raleigh area)

http://talk.theknot.com/BOARDS/ShowF...115&MsdVisit=1

We were married at The Wagner in Clayton (2003) and I wouldn't call them incompetent, but I wasn't 100% satisfied with the way several things were handled.

I second the recommendation for theknot.com - it was a HUGE help to me when planning our wedding down here. The local boards were especially helpful.

We ended up having our reception at the Siena Hotel in Chapel Hill http://www.sienahotel.com/, and the food and the staff were incredible. The ballroom isn't huge - we had 100 people for a sit-down dinner reception and we were at the limit, so 90 should fit pretty well. We did a cocktail hour in the area just outside the ballroom, and that worked really well.

Carolina Inn in Chapel Hill http://www.carolinainn.com/ and the Washington Duke (across the street from Duke University) http://www.washingtondukeinn.com/ are also gorgeous. We had a wonderful rehearsal dinner at Carolina Inn, and Washington Duke added a brand new ballroom a couple years ago, but I have yet to see it.
These are on the pricier end of the scale though.

Congrats, and feel free to PM if you have any specific questions - I'd be happy to share info on any of the vendors we used or looked into.
