I learned from my daughter's orchestra teacher that they will not be having an official tree lighting ceremony at Streets of Southpoint this year. I was there last year and it was really crowded so I am sure the businesses are not happy about not having that huge influx of people.

My guess would be that the company running South Pointe is having money issues and they could not get the event sponsored so they decided not to do it.
We went shopping there Saturday and I was sad to see that many of the smaller and I am assuming non chain type stores had closed. If the other stores that are slated to close by January do then they will have quite a few empty store fronts in that mall.
Has anyone been to Southpoint recently, well since Santa showed up, to see if they got the same Santa and Ms. Claus from previous years? My kids always are convinced they are the "real ones" so we usually go there to see Santa and then do some shopping, eat at Nordstroms, etc.
I saw Santa and Mrs Claus there yesterday but I have nothing to compare them to as I don't remember seeing them last year. The Mrs Claus did look very realistic. She was a little old lady with curly gray hair.

My daddy is the real Santa Claus! This year...just like last year, he and Mrs. Claus are spending their precious few days before the big event at Streets of Southpoint Mall in Durham. He's still big and round and has a belly like a bowl full of jelly and his beard is real and white as snow. He's gentle and sweet and will make your child's every wish come true. Go see him...you'll see the twinkle in his eye and you will know like me that he is the real deal.
