I don't know. All of my kids are out of school now but I took the trip but I was in the seventh grade when I went. They had the nerve to show us the electric chair. Now that was an experience.
My sister did go to DC in 1955. However, she is nearly 15 years older than I am so when I graduated in 1969, I never went to DC. I have been but I was grown when I went. I took a patient there for eye surgery. He was from Maryland and had it heart set on going back to his "regular" doctor so my daughter, who was 12 at the time and I took him there and back. Interesting trip. We went to Ford's Theater.
5th Graders at Leesville Highschool used to go to DC I know for sure, I think they may have discontinued that after 9/11 but I'm not possitive.
