I'm having a fairly small group, but I am suppose to do the cooking. I need some help "cheating" with some pre-made foods fro Thanksgiving dinner. I'm a pretty decent cook, so I'm looking for some things that are pretty beyond the "basics" although I'd love some great mashed potatoes and other things.

My son is not really sick, one of the many things I'm thankful for, but he just says I want to be next to you mama. I just won't feel right spending all day cooking.

Thank you for your help

I think Poppyseed Market in No. Raleigh is offering dishes for Thanksgiving. Hope your son feels better soon.

That sucks, both for you and for him. Seems like your relatives/friends who are coming over would be more than understanding and would help by bringing a dish each, leaving perhaps only the "core" items for you? I guess today is a little late to decide that, though.

You are a great mom!!! Personally, if I was coming to your house, I wouldn't mind eatting mac and cheese since you are putting the needs of your child first! I hope he feels better soon.

Depending on his age, he might be able to help you cook some things. My children love to cook and we've had them helping in various ways since they were 2. Cooking always makes them feel better too.

Enjoy your time with your boy. Good luck w/ the rest. And tomorrow night take a long, hot bath. You deserve it!!!

Thanks for the great suggestions and well wishes.
I just hope that people don't tell me that my Thansgiving meal this year is the best I've ever prepared!

With the time you just spent coming up with a misleading, sensationalistic topic to your post, you could have dumped a packaged of cubed squash in a pot, and mixed together some cranberries, water and sugar.

My biggest T-giving pet peeve is always peeling potatoes for mashed potatoes. It just always seems SO time-consuming. I now just make boxed-scalloped potatoes or instant mashed. With all of the other stuff on the table, plus the candied yams(which I don't mind making..very quick and easy), nobody cares.

QUICK candied yams: 1 or 2 large cans of Bruce Yams. Drain half of the liquid/use the other half. Put in a shallow baking dish. Cut up a stick of butter and put on top the yams, sprinkle with 1 cup of brown sugar, and 1/2 cup of orange juice. Bake for about 1 hour and sprinkle with nutmeg or cinnamon. The whole process takes MAYBE 1-2 minutes to prepare before baking.

WIth your son being sick I would just keep things very basic, Bagged salad, canned fruit salad, pre-made rolls(just heat them up) Turkey w/stuffing(The stuffing will probably be the most time consuming..make it tonight when he goes to sleep), candied yams, instant mashed potatoes, cans of corn/peas, canned gravy, canned cranberry sauce and store-bought pumpkin pie.

GOOD LUCK. He'll probably wake up feeling fine tomorrow..LOL. Kids!.....
