I currently live in Westchester County NY. All around our area there are great local magazines like The Westchester, or Greenwich, New Canaan etc. They are well written magazines that highlight what the area has to offer from dining, to shopping, to arts and culture and local people etc. Does Chapel Hill or Raleigh or Durham have something like this? I am asking because it is a great way to get to know the area and learn about the fun places to go, or eat etc.

There are some publications like Durham Magazine, but I would recommend the Independent as a good start.

Metro Magazine is a very well written monthly published by Bernie Reeves.Their website is metronc.com. It is a Raleigh to the coast format. I really enjoy reading it every month.

There is also Our State magazine... not exclusively about the Triangle, but it does contain a lot about the Triangle, as well as all the interesting things to do around the State!

Welcome to Our State Magazine

I like a lot of the columns in Metro. The music column is great as is the art column, Bernie Reeves...not so charming to me but clearly some people love him.

I also agree that the Independent is a great paper and the best calendar, at least in my opinion.

Signature is pretty but "fluffy:
Our State is very poular but does nothing for me personally.

Midtown is also a great magaine for a very local area,
