I'm looking to purchase a high quality road bike for someone as a Christmas gift. What bicycle shop in the greater Triangle area has the biggest selection? Oh, and of course the best deals too? Thanks!

There are a lot of great bike shops in the Triangle. Here's an earlier thread on the subject: //www.city-data.com/forum/ralei...s-gotchas.html

I know a lot of folks who like Spin Cycle.

Inside Out Sports is a triathlon shop, but they are a great resource for road bikes also.

What kind of bike are you looking for Carolina Cowboy? Or, what kind of rider are you purchasing it for? If the person is a hard core roadie, you're probably looking for something higher end (e.g., a Cervelo or titanium Lightspeed, etc.). If so, the Spin Cycle is probably the type of shop you're looking for. But, if this is a more casual weekend warrior type rider, then Performance (value brands) may be more of what you're looking for. For the in-between rider, a Cannondale, Trek, or Specialized may be more of what you need (although they run from race quality to beginner). Here, the Bicycle Chain can help.

Whatever the type of rider, make sure you identify the right size frame you need for the person. The right fit makes all the difference in the comfort of the bike. Good luck and happy shopping.
