Am I a failure if I move back to my hometown ? I cant find a decent job here in triangle and my previous employer back on coast is begging me to come back. problem is I have no housing back on coast and would have to start over AGAIN!!
Do I tough it out here and keep searching job or do I bite bullet and consider myself a FAILURE back on coast!!

It is a very difficult job market. Go to where you can find one.

I wouldnt consider it a failure......we all take chances in life.....we just sold our home here on long island and just got back from clayton and will be closing on our home there in Jan.....I truly hope it works out.....but god forbid it doesnt...I wont consider it a failure.....we chose to make a move and try something different.....if it was the wrong choice so be it....

You'll never know what else life has for you if you dont try.......if you feel you've given it your all and enough time and its not working and you think moving back is the right move than do so but dont look back and kill yourself over it.......

Life is too short and we need to just do what is best for us at the time......hopefully it all works out in the long run.....if not.....than move on...but I wouldnt consider you a failure.....

No, I don't think you're a failure at all! It's not you that can't find work, it's tons of other ppl who can't find work either. Work is very hard to find now. Why can't you get housing? I say find housing and go back. If you're in a lease, talk to your landlord and be honest. Explain your situation and you'll be surprised how they understand. Sometimes things just don't work out. As much as you may want to stay in Raleigh, you have to do what's best for you and your family. If it means putting food on your table and a roof over your head, you gotta do what you gotta do. I wish you the best of luck! Maybe in the future, when the economy gets better, you'll be able to come back.

Man. . . .that's a tough one.

My wife and I left perfectly good (high paying) jobs back in Dallas to move here 3 years ago. We moved here because we wanted a change and Raleigh had most of what we were looking for. We both got very good jobs here, but 2 months ago I got laid off. When I started looking for a new job, my boss back at my old employer in Dallas asked me to come back. My wife and I talked about it and we decided not to go back. But. . . . we are in what sounds like a different position financially than you are. My wife is working and I am collecting unemployment, so we have some breathing room. If that wasn't the case, the decision would have been more difficult. My advice is to first of all not consider yourself a failure. In any other economic time, you would have landed a job and would have been well on your way. Instead, look at this experience as bad timing. Perhaps you can move back to the coast and rent for a while, then when the economy improves you can try again.

In this economy the fact that your old boss is begging you to come back is a VICTORY! That means you are a success not a failure. Go where you can support your family. Raleigh will always be here.

Another thing, I think the OP is from NC coast which isn't that far. In your case that's a hike. As you said, you're in a better postion too. I agree with you about it being a bad time, we all have to stick it out. If we can make it through this, we can make it through anything! For everyone out there, just hang in there.

Would you be able to work on the coast during the week and come to the Triangle on the weekends? As a temporary solution. Do you have someone you can stay with on the coast while you figure it all out?

You are not a failure. There are many people out there who wouldn't have even tried something different, but remained with the status quo. I left NC over 3 yrs ago and am in the process of moving back -- to the same little town I left. My priorities have changed and the big city I left for is not what I want. Sometimes I worry if people will think I am a failure -- but I tried. They didn't. Just remember you had the gumption to try something that most are too afraid to do. Good luck in your endeavors.

You are certainly not a failure if your former employer wants you back! I would go where the work is and consider myself a success if I were you. You're still more successful that those who are still looking.
You can find housing, I'm sure. In fact, you may find that housing is cheaper than when you left!
