For jobs in the triangle I suggest healthcare. There are tons of hospitals around here with plenty of jobs open right now.

Wow just got back from filling out applications, went to the mall and too some of the bigger retail stores.
If i got the chance to speak to someone they all said " we have stopped hiring for the season" or "we are not hiring at all"
This is not good
You missed the boat for the holiday season. Retail stores like to have all of their holiday help hired by mid-November, so they can be at least partially trained by Thanksgiving weekend. Mid-December is WAY too late to start a new employee in retail; by the time they knew their way around the store, Christmas has passed, and they have to start letting the holiday help go. The store managers are far too busy now to even look over applications, except in cases where the ones they hired didn't work out and they're scrambling to fill them with warm bodies for the next two weeks.

Yes, I worked in retail management for 5 years.

I knew that beforehand, but seems no one else would be hiring. SO i just took a shot at it, and wow just by the time i spent filling out the applications at the retail stores there must have been atleast 3 in some stores that walked in behind me asking for an application.
so i sure was not the only one trying late in the season
let see someone like me that was used to making close to 40 a year in
maufacturing business with limited college
local government is not hiring not even for the prison jobs someone mentioned this to me
i tried hospitals out of 4, 3 had a hiring freeze
manufacturing forget it nothing out there
bascially all there was left was service jobs
tryed restaurants , most retail stores, fast food establishments
nobody looks to hire at this time

It's a scary time for a lot of people right now. I think this winter will be difficult. hopefully in the spring things will turn around. Many people are finding out that the area is not immune to the national recession.

I believe a persons attitude as to what their 'bottom line' can affect their job hunt. What is the lowest wage they would accept and what is the worst type of job they would accept, even as a stop gap. There are jobs out there that are not the most desirable but some people who claim to be looking just won't settle. NOT ALL PEOPLE OF COURSE.
I'd love people posting about looking for jobs to state what would be the minimum wage they would accept, but thats just because I am a nosey git!

As a stop gap, I would take $8.00/hr. For the permanent job, around $40k/year give or take a few thousand. I live a wonderful life on that.

look at NCSU positions...my lab is about to hire a couple of people but the applicant would need A LOT of specialty knowledge...I think someone from a pharmaceutical lab may migrate well.

I always do searches on the major job boards always show plentiful of jobs then when you reply nothing happens even for all those retail jobs. Im not the only one experiencing this
Alot of my co workers that got laid off along with me. There was 17 of us let go last week. most of us had worked there atleast 7 years.
ALL of us laid off are having trouble finding jobs.
