I was actually wondering how you'd know whether a neighborhood in Cary/Apex/Holly Springs had african americans in it, since only a small percentage of residents in a neigborhood are likely to be out in their front yard at any given time.
Are there clues that give this sort of information away? Certain models of cars in the driveway that indicate one skin pigmentation versus another?
I think we need a list, and then we will go snipe people from the Charlotte forums. Wait, Charlotte has Jack in the Box, there is no way we will ever beat that..
Don't forget Nascar. They have that too! Oh, and they also have a rotting Heritage USA...oh, that's right, that's across the border in SC. Oh, oh, oh!!! Don't forget; they also have all those fabulous banking jobs there!
I think the OP was asking a legit question actually and really just wanted to know about the African American population/demographic breakdown in Raleigh, and perhaps whether he/she might face some racism.
The thread definitely turned to absurdity but hey, it was light-hearted absurdity ?

All we have in Raleigh is 10 days of the State Fair, The Foxy Lady and a bunch of landmarks attributed to a Canadian Bank.

Are we all going to have to fight over whose community this person lives in?
LOL, OP, I agree that for a person who may be used to cities like NY or Boston or LA, moving to Raleigh, even downtown Raleigh, may feel a bit disconnected and sluggish. Downtown Raleigh has come an unbelieveably long way from what it was while I was growing up here. They literally rolled up the sidewalks at 5 pm when the banks closed and the politicians went home. It was creepy and deserted.
You might like the feel of Charlotte better. Their downtown is more like a "big city" downtown, even though it's not. But on the other hand, Raleigh downtown has a lot to offer without the stress of bigger downtowns. If you get a chance, come down and check out both areas. I don't really know about the percentage of "AA's" living in downtown Raleigh versus Charlotte are though. I think by visiting each one, you might just get that "right feel" for the area you like.

I am feeling lazy today on this rainy afternoon
