Recently I visited Raleigh (Holly Springs/Apex/Cary/Rolesville) and was disappointed in a couple of things. First, I did not see alot of AA's living in the nicer neighborhoods. Did I just miss them? or are they nonexistent? Second, I did not find alot of things to do in downtown Raleigh. Is that all there is to downtown. The reason I ask is because I am considering accepting a position with a law firm in Raleigh. Someone please tell me there's more to Raleigh.

Racial demographics are the third rail in my business, so all I will say is that the area is a bunch more diverse than pure whitebread Central Pennsylvania where I grew up.

Downtown is on a growth ramp-up, but to me, the beauty of the area is a slower pace of life than some cities I have spent time in.
I hear repeatedly from people that they have to assimilate a little after relocating to be able to take proper advantage of the local offerings.

If you decide that downtown Raleigh is lacking, it may be hard to get you excited about Apex or Cary. Both are great towns, but they are certainly not urban.

That is what I was wondering/thinking....
Alcoholics Anonymous?

Why come to a board with comments like "did I miss them" or " are they nonexistent.." Really?

Don't feel bad I had the same question although I thought we were all "A" as in American.

I'm an AA - an "Anglo American"

Sheesh,
The feller came on with a question, gets one reasonable answer, and off we go down a bunny trail...

Well, heck. I hope we didn't run him off already...

I was also confused as I know AA as Alcoholics Anonymous. So I thought that was a strange question too.

I was thinking Asian American.

To address the email. Define nicer neighborhoods? I know plenty of Black, White, Asian, Hispanic, Jewish, Italian, etc people that live in all kinds of neighborhoods. There is a good mix of people in my neighborhood but it might not be considered a nicer neighborhood to the Cary and North Raleigh folks. I cannot speak for the "nicer" places, but in my neighborhood everyone gets along as seems colorblind. I am inside the beltline near the corner of King Charles and Brighton.

What are you looking for Downtown you are not finding? Glenwood South is the main grown up bar district in town. There is also the Depot area and the Moore Square area, with random bars and clubs scattered around town. If you are looking for clubs that are geared more towards the AA market there is Black Ties, 4030 Room and Sin City, they are located outside of downtown.
