Oddly, the article said nothing about industries in Cary. It talks about state govt (raleigh), universities (raliegh, chapel hill, durham), pharmaceuticals (durham), high tech (durham...wait, cary has SAS). Cary has bedrooms, shopping and SAS. Anything else?
The article states RALEIGH-CARY as the ranked area, NOT Cary.
From the article:
"State government employment gives this capital city a sturdy backbone for economic security. High quality educational centers (North Carolina State; University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill) inject creative brainpower into Raleigh’s thriving tech companies and its growing biopharmaceutical sector – all good signs for strength in the coming year."
PLEASE tell me how this in ANY way mentions Cary specifically in the brief justification of the ranking. All I see here is "Raleigh", "Capital City", and references to UNC and NC State, none of which involve Cary.
Now before all you Cary Fan-boys and get your panties up in a bunch, this is NOT a Cary-bash...I have said over and over again that it's a fine place to live, but to blatantly mis-state an article's findings and try to pass them off as factual with a misleading title like this one does a disservice to this board and all those who try to get info from it.
Please, can we stop having these mis-leading threads praising Cary? I love Cary, mind you, but it seems like information is being presented on here one way (apparently to make Cary look good, for some reason), only to find that the link says something different. Maybe the articles are not being read clearly enough...if that is the case, please read more carefully or do not post it if the facts can't be gotten straight.

While SAS is certainly the biggest, I think that you are forgetting about the dozens of smaller companies in Regency Park and along Weston Pkwy. Qualcomm is one example.
As the others have said, that article has almost nothing to do with Cary. It specifically mentions Raleigh and UNC in addition to Cary. So the title of your thread should really be "Triangle rated #2 for salary growth."
What am interesting and informative article Beckycat. I am glad you found it and posted it. It is great to see the Cary Metro area in such great shape. I am glad I made the move here. I hope to see you up here soon. Please keep these great posts coming. It really helps out people looking for the pros and cons.
I'm sure Cary is only mentioned since I believe that our MSA is considered "Raleigh/Cary" now. That is why they show our population as 995,000 people instead of the closer to 1.6 Million. Durham/Chapel Hill is their own MSA I believe?

I just posted a tome on the MSA's on the Triangle Mommies Group Thread. You can answer all your questions, there, but yes, Chapel Hill is within Durham, and Raleigh and Cary (and some counties you might not expect) are in Raleigh's.
Guess I am gonna move up to Cary and scarf up one of those jobs!
