Yesterday I was on I-85 in Henderson near US-1 headed back to Raleigh. I got pull over by a state highway patrol officer for doing 70 in a 55. Is this considred reckless driving in NC? Should I get a lawyer and go to court or pay the $151 fine? Any advice would be greatly appreciated=)
Yep...15 mph over the speed limit will get you nailed here. No sympathy here I drive the posted speed limit, with the exception of occasionally driving as much as 75 in 70. I just never saw the big rush.

You should have no problem pleading it down to 9 mph over, assuming your record is clean. Show up in court, make your plea, and pay your court costs. Make sure you bring cash money American, because that's the way The Judge likes it.
I don't think it's necessary to get a lawyer involved, either.
With it being 15 over, I would get consider a lawyer to help ensure things go the way you need them to in order for the ticket not to effect your insurance rates (Being convicted of anything over 9mph). If you have a clean record and can get to the courthouse without a major hassel then you could try it yourself...and probably be successful getting it reduced to 9mph over.
That is one area that I make sure I never speed. They want to get the speeding drivers as they first come into North Carolina so they will not keep up the speeding and kill our people. You can go there any day of the week and see many cars pulled over. The same goes for I-40 when it just comes into North Carolina from Tennessee.
You need a good lawyer and you will probably be getting many letters from different ones in the mail. I have done it both ways and the get a lawyer turns out more than $2,000 cheaper.
Just kidding. Do NOT simply mail in the fine and costs, your insurance will increase substantially for three years.
If you show up for court they will offer you a reduction to 64/55, which will not result in an insurance increase if you have no other convictions in the last 3 years.
Get a lawyer, pay him to do his job and make it go away. If you don't, you have the initial fee's plus the increase in insurance. Do not use PJC (Prayer for justice continued) unless it is an absolute last resort.
