I'm looking for a great deli sandwich. I stopped last night at Serendipity in Cary because I have not been there in 20 years, I was passing by, and I was going into pastrami DT's. Right there on the side of the building was a sign that said "gourmet deli". Perfect!

Ummm....no,not really. My pastrami was rubbery and flavorless, and my wife's chicken salad was obviously from a bulk plastic container and not fresh.

So no more Serendipity for us.

My post is not, however, about bashing them for being bad. It's about finding one that is good. Tell me about your favorite deli sandwich location in ral/dur/cary/c.hill. Use words like "fresh" and "homemade", and "baked on-site" and generous". Avoid words like "franchise" and "stringy" and "emergency room".

Thanks.

No contest...DaVinci's in wake forest. I drive 30 min to get a sandwich from there once a month.

Bread (key ingredient IMO) is made in house, perfect mix of crunch on the crusty outside and soft bread on the inside.

Extremely generous amount of meat. I get the eye-talian...ham, salami, provolone, roasted red peppers and a balsamic type dressing.

Price: Excellent...8$ gets you a "sandwich"...probably 10-12", big enough for 2 people to have a half and you will be full for hours afterwards.

While there, get some homemade mozarella, pickles are awesome....lots of good stuff.

Thanks for posting this! I was so disappointed to hear that the Food Factory, formerly in the location, closed. Do you know why?

Looking forward to trying Dorry's soon!

They're running the "Devil's Diner" on Duke's Central Campus, but it's always overwhelmed with undergrads.
