One of the reasons we were able to live in Raleigh for 16 years, coming from NY, is that it hardly felt like the South in many ways. The ways that it did feel southern were all positive, like a a slower pace and more politeness. SC OTOH- that's a different story! And why we are anxious to move back to the Triangle. I love visiting NYC; daughter lives there, but would never move back north!

NJ gets a bad rap, but I lived within a 10 minute bike ride to the beach. Beautiful towns, great food and, by and large, great people. The tough part is for working class families to pay the obscene taxes and young families to afford a home. They continually vote in moronic (being nice) governors and wonder why taxes keep rising and nothing gets done.

So, no, I don't regret leaving. If I did, I would be there now.

Yup you’ll probably regret it. I’m always hearing transplants complain about how it’s not like where they were from and they want to change it into the place they left from

Today I love it. I really just don't like muggy humid weather which occurs in lots of places throughout the US. Hard to avoid in the warmer months. I have lived in treeless brown Denver suburbs. I have lived in sprawling bland terrain Dallas- Fort Worth. I will take RDU any day over these other places.

Among the places I've lived, I like living here and there, with no regrets about either, as well as the other places I've lived.

I absolutely love living in the Raleigh area and wouldn't want to live anywhere else in the United States right now. However, the humidity here is horrible at times and is certainly something I could do without.

38 years for me now. Born in Connecticut and lived in upper state NY for 2 years before transferring here with IBM. I absolutely love it here. I lived in Raleigh for 20+ years before moving to Wake Forest and then now Granville County in Franklinton. I live in the Ironwood Subdivision on a 1 acre lot in a custom built home and its beautiful out this way.

Sounds lovely!

Is it true that Franklin and Granville counties are experiencing heroic growth?

It is growing and homes are not staying on the market at all out this way. I like it because you are close enough to Raleigh and Durham without the expense of homes in those areas. You definitely get more home for your money. The other thing is it is peaceful and lots are bigger. Not one red light after another.
