I lived in NJ for almost 65 years have been in NC since 2014. Of course you always miss home but since my kids are down here I'm fine. I don't mind the Summers and overall the weather is just great down here most all the time. No snow mild Winters just love it.

I will admit that I got homesick watching all of the focus on Pennsylvania during the vote counting and the celebrations in Philadelphia once PA was called for Biden. I just look at them and think, "those are my people." The big city, the Philly Phanatic and Gritty on the street, the accents, the whole package. North Carolina is nice and the weather is much more to my liking but it's not home. We will be moving to Philadelphia when my youngest is done with high school.

Gritty is Perfect for Philadelphia.

I don't mean the humidity, which I'm sure will only worsen over the years as global warming proceeds, I mean one's tolerance for the endless heat? Lived her all my 50+ years, and the humidity is just a fact of life. I can't say we ever "get used to it".

This is why we always suggest that those looking to move come for a visit in the hottest part of summer first

At least our fall and Spring are nice (if short) and you will likely find our winter a non-event.
But summer in NC is brutal, and with climate change, seems to be getting a little worse, though never really predictable.

"Heroic"? LOL, I can't imagine that.

You can read lots about those counties here:

Boo, this is home now. I guarantee, when you first move back, you're gonna miss home...get my drift.

The wife and I have been here for about 14 years. We are originally from NY(me upstate and the wife from Long Island). We miss it greatly. While NC is nice, this is not home and will never be. There is something about up North that you can get down here. We have thought about moving back very soon.

I am sure I will miss some things about North Carolina, but I don't think I'll miss it "as my home." Moving to Philly is not a done deal (still have 4+ years before my son finishes high school), but it's the tentative plan for now. A lot can change between now and then. We'll see.

It's anecdotal but I'm always hearing really good things about the future of Franklin County. Talk is that some parts will eventually be as nice as Wake Forest.

My wife and I moved down to North Carolina in 2004 to be closer to family and we're so happy we did. Maryland between Washington, DC and Baltimore where we came from was simply becoming too stressful so we had to get out before going crazy.

In the future we can see ourselves moving one last time up to Blowing Rock near Boone, NC but that will depend on the availability of reasonably priced ranch homes there. Last time we checked there weren't any.

There's a difference between getting used to it and knowing that it's coming.
