The safety net in NC is not what you find in many other states.

Many employers provide no health coverage. Even state civil service charges $500 per month for family coverage.

Just because rents and homes may be cheaper, NC is not the land of milk and honey some folks were led to believe by stupid magazines.

If you can make a high salary here, you do well. If not in one of those fields, you may wind up with a real taste of southern poverty.

NC is a good place if you make decent money.

I just read that as of January 1 NC has a new program for people with pre-existing conditions or no access to Cobra: http://www.nchirp.org/

COBRA insurance too expensive for most people :: WRAL.com

It's good that they offer this insurance. The problem is that it's not really affordable, especially for women.
