After living in Florida, I hate anything under 72. But this apartment has horrible insulation and I'm constantly freezing - I feel like I'm camping. My thermostat is currently on...75...and I'm wearing sweats.
It's a 1 br apartment though. But my heat bill was pretty high last month...
I recently looked at a rental house that was set on 65, had oil heat, and felt so much warmer than my current apartment! The windows here are very drafty.
I tend to keep my central air on 75 as well though so I guess it evens out.
I definately have to agree with you! We keep ours at 70-72.
I make every effort to keep it just about right so that means a programmable thermostat.
Here is the simple rule of my thumb I use:
1/2 hour before waking up or coming back home crank it up to 69.
When no one around crank it down to 62.
About the time the eyes close each day cranks down to 62. Paid for blankets on the
beds so figure might as well use them.
...and the process goes on and on and on until the weekend, then it cranks up
more than down.
..and that's the little diddy about winter home temps....inside that is!
Shiver me timber this thread has given me the 'Cold shoulder.....arm, leg, and nose' with all this 55 Degree talk. At 55 one would have to chisel me out of the bed in the AM. By the time the morning tea hit my throat it would be deemed iced Sweet Tea! Goodness I thought 60 to 62 at night was a fright but I do have to remember the old speed limit motto I suppose.....55 to stay alive!

The thermostat goes down to 55 only at bedtime. We have plenty of blankets, so it's not bad at all. It's better than what I had growing up. We had one coal stove in the kitchen to heat a small log house, and it didn't get one lump after we went to bed
