Our one year anniversary is coming up at the end of this month. We don't get much time off - just the day of and the day after, the 27th and 28th (Tuesday, Wednesday).
When we were kids in NY, we used to sneak away from my mum's and rent a sleazy room for three hours (because these places rented by the hour). We'd watch HBO and fool around and sometimes brave the STDs we knew were lurking in the hot tub.
We were thinking it might be nice to stay the night somewhere nice - minus the STDs and sleaze. It'd have to be somewhere close, though, so we're not driving all night and day.
What do you guys think? Any awesome hotels or cute, little B&Bs?
We went to the Fearrington House for our first year anniversary and stayed one night. We went to "tea", had a superb 4 course dinner, walked the stores, had ice cream at the Belted Goat cafe, the room was really nice (we got the cheapest they had) and we used their movie library. When we got back to our room after dinner there were 2 glasses of port with truffles and slippers as the turn-down service. The dinner was very quiet and intimate. The next morning we had a fantastic breakfast. My husband really wants to go back, it was really nice. Its not that far away either.
Last year for our 15th anniversary we stayed at the Graystone Inn in Wilmington, NC. It's an easy 2 hour-ish drive from here. Since you're going midweek, they will let you book only one night. The Innkeepers are very nice, the breakfast is wonderful, the inn is very lovely.

We had a nice dinner at Cafe Deluxe, an easy five minute walk from the Inn.
Thanks for the suggestions, guys! I've seen the Fearrington house - that one came up almost first when I did a little research, but it's way expensive. Holy smokes.
MAtoNC, I find it ironic that you're 'hoping for a troll free 2009' when you've plainly trolled my thread. Hurray for hypocrisy.
4 hrs, 25 minutes from Raleigh by Rand McNally. Take one of those horse drawn tours. If it is warm, enjoy, if it is cold, enjoy ...under the blankets......
