I don't know if there is one that is authentically Memphis-style, i.e. dry rub based que, in the Triangle. When I am hankering for non NC que, I either head to The Original Q Shack in Durham, they have the best Texas style brisket, or Smokey's BBQ Shack in Morrisville, which is probably closest to North FL South GA style que, i.e., heavily smoked with a tomato-based sauce on the side.

Dickey's and Danny's are more Texas style, good, but not Memphis. For my money, Holy Smoke has the best ribs. They call them St Louis style. I've come to find out that ribs a very much a personal preference, beyond the size and cut. Holy Smoke's are a dry-rubbed, smoked, and you can basically pick which ones you want as they cut them in front of you.

The best ribs I ever had were from the Roundevous in Memphis. I can't say I have had any like that in the Triangle. The best BBQ I ever had in the Triangle was from a place on 55 outside Apex in the 80's called OT's. Interstate BBQ in Memphis was the worst I have ever had.

How 'bout Oh! Brian's in Durham on Hwy. 55? Their babyback ribs are pretty darn good! I think they have a location in Raleigh on Glenwood Ave too near Millbrook Rd.

BTW, where is Holy Smokes?
