Raleigh, N.C. — PSNC Energy filed a request Friday with the state Utilities Commission to lower its rates by 10 percent.

If approved, the average household would save about $12 per month during the winter/heating season.

The commission is expected to rule on the request Jan. 26.
The change would go into effect next month.

PSNC lowered its rates by 14 percent earlier this month.

It's nice to see someone actually lowering their rates. Maybe I'll send them a Thank You note with my next payment.

I'll believe it when I see it.

My December bill was based on $1.42/therm. Just received January bill based on $1.39/therm. The bill says the rate will go to $1.30/therm later this month. 1.42 less 14% would have been 1.22, so we didn't get the 14% and doubtful we'll see 10% on top of 14%.

Just the normal deception we get through the 'news': Always a "chance of snow" 3 days out during Winter; always a "chance of rain" 3 days out in Summer; chance your utility rates will decrease 24% over 2 months.

Even though I know it's a ruse, I still feel better hearing this type of news.

meanwhile Chicago gets $0.65/therm (their bill is different so equates to ~$0.90/therm here)

PSNC must host some nice perks for our Utilities Commission to accept the 'costs' allowed into our rate.

On what grounds would anyone ever deny a utility company's request to lower their rates???

Yeah...we'll believe it when we start seeing it too! Nothing but increases every bill. Can't wait to see what Jan's bill looks like!

I can assure you there are no perks. The commission is not even allowed to accept Christmas cards!
