Hi,

I currently live in New York and am dying to get out. Tired of high cost of living.

Heres a little info on myself:

*24 years, female, single
*Currently live in a 2bdrm dump with a roommate. Total rentis $900, my portion is $500, as my bdrm is bigger
*Work for export company making $34000/year and have been there 3 years.
**REALLY intereted in Charlotte, but I am openminded to other areas.

What types of companies/industry is there in Raleigh. How is public transportation. I won't have a car when I move,so being able to ge around is key.

I'm also looking for a diverse area with lots of activities/attrations.

Any information you can give me would be great.

I just moved to Raleigh from Chicago, and you WILL need a car. The only public transportation to speak of is a meager bus system. I'm not really sure about Charlotte, though. So far, I am loving this city. There are a ton of restaurants in the downtown area, and even more scattered throughout the metropolitan area. Shopping is also abundant. There are a ton of tech companies in Research Triangle Park, but you don't have to be in a tech field to work there.

If you have any specific questions about the area, this board is a great resource.

There is a lot to do around here. I moved here from upstate NY around 2 years ago and never been happier. You would probably need a car though. Don't know much about the public transportation but it doesn't seem to be all that extensive yet. Cost of living here is much better than up North. Weather is much better and there are plenty of job opportunities with the Research Triangle right here and with plenty of downtown growth.

Public transit in Raleigh is extremely sparse and taxis are costly.

Jobs are tight now, even in tech.

Check us out with a visit. By the time you're ready to move. things might be better.

For the most part things are easier here. Six years here and loving it. I do have to visit NY to get my fill though.

I miss Manhattan where we lived 10 years in a middle income project.

Would love to visit, but then come home to Raleigh.
