It was crazy. Went to Costco in Durham, huge lines to check out, people buying a LOT of stuff, the lines to check out extended into the aisles. Heard an associate tell another about how the whole of Durham has showed up at Costco to shop.
Went to Crabtree Valley Mall today, huge wait to park, then went into the mall itself and it was busy...it did not seem like there was a recession, people are losing jobs. Starbucks had a line out of the store for people buying coffee, Apple had so many people in the store we could barely move...it was amazing.
Good thing I guess - we are all contributing towards the economy...

Although some will say you only imagined that you saw what you saw or that you made up what you saw, I believe what you are posting. I have been posting for some time now that the Triangle is doing much better than many parts of the country. I have been posting that we have not felt the pain that other parts of the country have felt. I have posted that I would rather be in the Triangle to ride out this storm than most other parts of the country. You sound like me now. Hey, are you me and me you????.
I don't have any reason to doubt des1rees. I am amazed by how well this area is holding up however there are certainly families in trouble around here too.
yikes. You have more patience than me - or didn't have kids with you! Chang's is good but it's not THAT good!!!
I was thinking the same thing. When I turn up at a restaurant I am usually already pretty hungry and sometimes even a half an hour wait can be too long.
For reference purposes, I'm from NY and I'm witnessing the same thing. The stores are packed, the carts are full and not only with necessities..
Went to a bday party with 40 people last night at a middle to high end seafood restaurant, (NOT Red Lobster ) and when we walked out of our back room, every table was filled and there was a crowd of 35 waiting in the bar area for the room we were exiting .
Went to Best Buy as hubbie is investigating flat screens and had to wait for a sale person as we watched one flat screen after another carried past us!
Seeing SOLD signs in yards.
I'm beginning to think a lot of the recession huff and puff is media generated (got a lot of news channels to fill remember) and we should shun them unless 1) it's feel good stories or 2) the weather
I did some shopping today for one specific reason: SALES. There are a ton of sales at just about any store you can think of. It seems as though stores have been slashing prices since the holiday season. People are out looking for deals. I got a few GREAT deals today. But I left empty-handed from stores that didn't have good enough bargains.
