My company is looking at switching from Blue Cross to United Healthcare. I have never heard of them before so I wonder how other's experiences have been with them.
Any opinions either way out there?

I think they are fine from the employee standpoint - but as a former health plan administrator, I found dealing with them a complete nightmare!

we switched this year to UHC from BCBSNC because Wake Med North didn't accept BCBSNC -- not the emergency docs anyhow. Just be sure to check carefully with your docs and specialists and other providers before having services performed and you should be fine!

I've never had any problems with UHC. Like any other major insurer, your happiness will depend a lot on what kind of plan you have. Through my company, we have 2 options with UHC. I chose the more expensive plan with lower deductibles, better coverage, etc. and have been VERY happy. Some of my co-workers have the cheaper plan and aren't as thrilled. They feel like they're getting nickeled and dimed to death. But I haven't heard anyone complain about bad service from UHC.

We have had United Healthcare for years. Have not had any problems with them. I like that you don't need a referral to see a specialist as long as they are in the network. And most doctors seem to be in the network.

We've had UHC for about 5 years and have no problems with them. Everything has been surprisingly easy. They were great when I had my children.

We have UHC and I have found them to be worse than the BCBS ins. I have had in the past. We pay a lot of money for a plan that required $60 copays for docs and for prescriptions, and we have had a really hard time getting a lot of meds covered--they simply refuse to cover a number of them and don't even accept appeals. I have just found dealing with them to be a huge hassle.

I had United Health Care 1-2 years ago and liked it. No problems. Also, you may get a nice surprise switching from BCBS, (Had it on two different occasions) which I find the Worst plan out there, for me so far! Good advice to check before you need services to see what's covered, or get preapproved.
