We are relocating to raleigh in mid summer, my husband is NYC union journeyman electrician. He has 10 years experience, an associates in labor studies, and is certified in many areas [high voltage, osha safety, etc.]. We were wondering is there any work in this field or unions? How would you locate possible employers or contractors? Any suggestions or information on where to look around would be great!

Do you at least have a job lined up? I would not advise anyone to leave without at least having something lined up. Especially with local people losing their jobs.
I agree; you should do your homework and not move here--particularly if you weren't aware that NC is a non-union state--without already having jobs lined up. Not in this economy, anyway--companies are laying people off.
hey I read your post this morning, wondering if your husband had any luck finding work? We are in the same situation as you. My husband got laid off for the first time early March of this year, he is also union and we're in Michigan, no work here.
Work is bad everywhere... I'm an IBEW member too. Being book two anwhere isn't a good idea right now. You might check out the FLEE's or BEE's website for input... Good luck brother.
The IBEW is very much alive and kicking in the Raleigh area.
There is plenty of work here for good people.
