Attention all newcomers!

I wanted to let you know some of my favorite Raleigh dining institutions:

K&W Cafeteria in Cameron Village... been dining there since I was a child in the 70's. Great broiled fish, chicken and dumplings, homemade mac and cheese, great vegetables including fried okra. Great desserts, all reasonably priced.

Chargrill on Hillsborough St. near Glenwood Ave. Flame-broiled burgers, fries and shakes.

And I love a ham and egg bisquit from either Hardees or Bisquitville on Wake Forest Rd. near Six Forks Rd.

Anyone know of a good BBQ place in Raleigh?

architect77, you made me hungry even though I just finished supper.
We use to visit the K&W in Wilmington.... love the fried okra & chix & dumplings. My husband just got back from a week in NC and he said that you just can't get the same bisquits here in Portland.

Wow, thanks for the recommendations! I loved going to a cafeteria to eat with my grandparents when I was little, but all the cafeterias in that area all seemed to fade away over time. I will certainly check out K&W!! A co-worker also mentioned Chargrill and said it's pretty good eats!

The 'best' carolina barbeque that we have had in the triangle has got to be holden's in youngsville, just off of us 1 (capital blvd) only open for breakfast and lunch, you get a pitcher of tea at the table with wonderful barbeque and awesome sides.........

for breakfast you cannot beat johnson's family restaurant also in youngsville. The best bread pudding in the world!

Leigh

BBQ & Ribs, on St. Mary's Street, at W. Johnson St. (real close to the char-grill you just mentioned.)

I love Cooper's Barbecue at 109 E. Davie St., downtown Raleigh. A real old-fashioned place. Old timers still call it "Clyde Cooper's."
