Yes. That's what I remember from other auto shows I've been to in the past. You can sit in all the Fords and Chevys, but not the Ferraris and Aston Martins. I have the number for the show organizer, but figured she'd be a little busy on opening day.

I went to the Intl Auto Show today at convention center and it was a big yawn. You'd never know it was enrn there! I entered from front of conv center at 3 pm and there were NO SIGNS OR BANNERS anywhere outside! How is that possible??? Most cars at the show were open, even the $100k cars. Only encountered one locked door. No concept cars though! Bummer. Also, no minis and, surprisingly, no Fords! Really surprised about that! Some nice Bmws, porsches, mercedes, and some Smart cars (cute!). The show was pretty ordinary. I'm used to the car shows in LA, and this one was decidedly smaller and less flashy. I don't think a $5 admission is unreasonable. It's cheaper than the gas to drive to so many dealerships. Cheaper than a movie....

But I do appreciate your enthusiasm for seeing "million dollar alley" cars which got us in the economic mess we are all in!
The International Show at the new civic center has been coming here for a while. I plan to attend it this year, it has probably been 6 years since the last time I visited, coincidentally around the same time I purchased a new car. I plan to buy later this year or early next and this is a great opportunity to check out 3 or 4 models I have interest in at one setting. It's worth the $5 to me to visit once place and not drive to Glenwood, Capital, or HWY 64.
It's worth the piece of mind to "shop" without being "hassled", it's probably about the same I'd spend in gas driving to the other dealers, and most it's worth saving me time.

I'm also looking at it as something different my wife and I can do and get out of the house (it's the little things these days, it seems most of our time is spent centered around our 2 year old).

Great points and thanks for your perspective! One thing to note is that GM and FORD are not at the show so hopefully you were not looking for their lineup.

This sounds like the Ft. Lauderdale Auto Show in FL. I went there one time after many times visiting the Miami International Auto show (which isn't even as good as the LA show from what I hear). Ft. Laud. didn't have nearly as many brands, nor the concept cars, that the Miami show did. For me, it was disappointing, but for someone who is shopping it could be worthwhile if the brands you are interested in are all there.

Being a MINI owner, I can't justify going to an auto show that does not have MINI. I have little interest in most other new cars these days.

Thanks for the report and exactly why I decided to spend the $5 on 2.7 gallons of gas and tour the triangle and see far more than I would see inside the auto show and as an added bonus I seen many of the cars that are shown at the show anyway! Got to see them on the road, in front of me, on the side of me, and behind me, and most all PASSING me!

As they use to say on MTV..." I want my M-Series!"....or something like that!

Happy Friday!

I took my 3 1/2 year old son to the auto show yesterday and he had a BLAST! I swear he must have "test drove" 2 dozen vehicles ranging from a Toyota Camry Hybrid to a Dodge Charger Datona. . . . . . .a Smart car to an Audi Q7. . . . . a Kia Rio to an Audi R8. It was $5 to get in and we paid another $4 for 2 hours of parking. He had as much fun there as he does at Marbles or Monkey Joes

We're taking our 2-month old son tomorrow. I have a feeling he might not enjoying it as much as the 3 year old, but Mommy and Daddy need to get out of the house with each other and do something!! I have yet to go to the new convention center either, so it might be nice to walk around a bit and check things out.

It's very nice. We "rode" the escalators and elevators while we were there too, so I had a chance to check out some of the other areas.

We parked across the street at the Sheraton garage because parking at the convention center was $7 flat rate.
