I used to run distance in high school, but have let myself get way too out of shape. I was thinking about signing up for a 5k to get myself going again, but I would look for a race where someone out of shape and running 9-10 minute splits won't stand out too terribly much. Does anyone know if this or any other local 5ks offer such an atmosphere, for the not very good/competitive runner?

If you can run 9-10 min miles you won't stand out in any local 5K. Go to active.com or one of the local running sites like Godiva Running Club and click on the results tab.
You will see that all of the local races have folks finishing well after 30 mins
