I am looking for activities for a 7 yr old girl. -- I can take her to the library, etc, but I would like her to be able to interact with girls her own age outside of school. She has not "sports" experience (no soccer, T-ball, etc.) so I'm guessing that signing up to join a team or other sports group is not feasible.

She loves music, drama and art (again, no formal training). The few schools that I have been able to find are kind of out of reach financially (after paying for before and after school care).

Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, in advance.

Take a look at the Town of Cary classes. We've had really good experiences in the art classes.

Town of Cary :Parks, Recreation & Cultural Resources Programs (http://www.townofcary.org/depts/prdept/programs.htm - broken link)

You could think about some swimming lessons now (Cary YMCA, Triangle Aquatic Center, Morrisville Community Pool or Pullen Park pool are all good places) and then sign up for a summer swim team.

TriangleMommies.com--the Triangle area of North Carolina's Mom-to-Mom Connection is a good source of info too.

I don't quite understand -- do you think that at 7 years old she's missed the window of opportunity to join organized sports teams? I'd hate to think you'd let that prevent her from getting involved in athletics (if she has any interest, that is).

I'll second the Town of Cary classes linked by J_Lurk. My daughter really enjoys the art classes.
