I have noticed a common theme in the Triangle threads. People are so concerned about "diversity". If it was talked about just a little, I wouldn't think twice about it. But it seems to be saturating threads and conversation. Why is there so much focus on who has more diversity than the next town in the Triangle? We have friends of different ethnicities and we also work with different ethnicities. From our standpoint, it isn't even a thought. We don't count our friends or our coworkers to see if they are "diverse enough". We just go about our lives and enjoy everyone and everything, without worrying about is it diverse enough. Is it just that we have progressed at a much quicker rate than others in the Triangle, to the point where skin color is not even a consideration with us? We just don't ever pay attention to anyone's skin color. We just do what we do and don't even think about it.
Most of the questions come from people moving from bigger cities. I grew up in a town 95% white with not many who had a college degree. I'd never consider moving back there or to an area similar to that.
The questions are easy to understand as if you plan to make a move you want to know about the people who live there.

Here's my $0.02: I agree 100% with what you have said. I see a lot of people are afraid to be labeled a racist so they remark on how "diverse" they are and how many black or white friends they have. I have also found that those people who are "diverse" are also the most racist people I know.

I think you are wrong. I like diversity because it tends to keep the actual racists away...as they fear and don't want anything to do with anyone that isn't just like they are.
I never want to live in a place that doesn't have diversity and differences....my family would miss too many interesting people.
I visit the many Cary parks so touted about in your appends. Rarely do I see a black person. I seen what must have been one day a large number of kids I presume from some neighboring school running at Bond park. There were a few oriental, but I didn't catch a single black person. I'll be the very first this isn't at all scientific ... but as the saying goes "seeing is believing"

Absolutely correct on both counts (as this thread will attest). Both are commonplace to say the least and welcome to 21st century America.

Well said (same for CD - yes you are farther along than most even if your pimping of Cary is delusional ) and bravo for not being afraid to say what a lot of people think but don't have the backbone to say.
People are people......people. Learned that many moons ago. Blood is blood and it is all red. We vary some by culture, upbringing and so on, but we all universally share the same emotions, desires and needs. And no, I'm not a flaming liberal!
The Triangle is diverse in most places I've seen. Not balanced mind you, but I would still call it diverse.
Also, there is more to "diversity" than just skin color: economic status, age, religion, native language, sexual orientation, kids/no kids, etc. All are different elements of "diversity" even among a group that's all one race.
