Default Wonderful place to bring your family, but the job situation??

Well, up until this past year, I would tell you finding concrete and construction work would be a breeze. Unfortunately, the construction trades have really been hit hard. It's not going to be easy to find work in the trades right now.

Maybe though, some of the stimulous money will create construction work?? If work begins on bridges and infrastructure, I would think concrete work will be plentiful, right? NC needs lots of infrastructure rebuilding.

Indiana's been hit pretty hard too though, from what I hear. Seems like this area might get job growth quicker than where you are now, or am I misinformed? Cost of living may be a bit higher here as well.

Good luck with your decision. If you decide to give our area a try, welcome!

Standard caution coming up:

I would advise against moving your family here if you don't have a job lined up. The construction industry is hurting here, so unless you can live for a long time off your savings, I wouldn't move.

Seconded. New construction here has really taken a hit. With four kids, you need to worry about moving somewhere you will be able to work, first and foremost.

Best of luck to you.

Lots of aliens (some legal) have depressed construction wages.

Almost no union presence here.

I'm not sure of any job openings, but there is a company I know of, Blalock Paving, that you could look into. Elkhart was on CNN a few nights ago, wasn't Pres. Obama recently visiting?

Here is the link to Blalock: http://www.blalock-paving.com/
