Hi Everyone,

I am so happy to have come across this web site. We just had our offer accepted on the house we love in Walnut Creek today and are so looking forward to the move from NJ. I wanted to get any information or ideas you might have on home day care, I have 4 children (a 14, 4, 2 and a baby coming in June). I have done home daycare here in New Jersey but I am sure prices are different there so I wanted to know if you have any ideas on what people are charging and what demand there might be. I did see a lot of kids in the neighborhood so I am hoping that it won't be too difficult to get 3 full time kids and maybe some before and after school care.

Also I wanted to know if there are any play groups or music classes in the Clayton area or other things I might want to know for my kids. Thanks so much for your help!

Justine

I found this link:

http://www.neighborhoodacademyofmusic.com/

East Clayton has a MOMS club - I'm not sure if you'd be able to participate but it is worth looking into.

You have to get licensed here in NC to be able to provide daycare services out of your home. They'll come out and look at your home and determine how many kids you can handle, etc... This area has actually had some recent tragedies regarding home daycare (including deaths of children) and I think a lot of people have become scared to leave their children in someone's home unless they personally know them.

What people charge varies depending on what kind of services one offers (do you feed the kids, do you take care of infants, are you qualified to teach, etc... ).

There are probably a number of mom's groups and mops groups (if you have preschoolers). I would also recommend two sites:

trianglemommies.com is an online forum (very active) and they have playgroups, mother's night out, etc based on where in the triangle that you live (I know there are a number of clayton mommies and daddies), there is also a working parents group that has more get together's on the weekend.

Carolina Parent is a free magazine that has some great information about the activities for kids in the triangle, you can check them out online at carolinaparent.com

These are the places I have found great resources.
