My sister was a foster mom and I can tell you that although adopting a child is an option, it is a big decision and can tear families apart. My sister's kids had been through a lot in their short lives (all 4 were under the age of 3) and it was very hard to deal with some of their issues (drug addiction, sexual molestation, violence). Since you can't know everything that happened to the child, and they often aren't old enough or able to tell you, it can be a very big, stressful, tiring journey. I think anyone who wants to adopt should, but it's not for everyone.

We considered the adoption route and found out that it is extremely difficult and expensive to adopt children in this country or in another. It is VERY rare/difficult to be able to adopt a newborn or a child under 1 year of age and for those who really wish to have a newborn baby, IVF may be their only option.
