My DH just finished the PMP course locally. I think it was in Morrisville somewhere? He joined the local PMP organization and they helped him through the process of registering for the course and the exam. He's scheduled to take the exam June 5th.
I also have several friends and neighbors who are PM's at IBM and they don't have their PMP certifications yet. I know one nieghbor who is an IBM PM said she gets training from IBM, so she didn't have to take the course.
