I am considering purchasing a home in Weldon Ridge or Cary Park. I am trying to gauge the air plane noise in that area. I have heard through this forum that those two subdivision do have air traffic over them. I would just like to know if it is minimal, noisy or unbearable?
Thanks

I can only say that we looked in Cary Park and decided against it due to airplane noise. We went out at sunset and sat in our car with the windows down. It was very loud and occured about every 5-10 minutes. I know the flight patterns change. This was in July 06.

living in Cary park
Cary park is fantastic neighborhood, a great place to live and raise a family. WE have 2 kids and absolutely adore this place. WE love it. WE are now getting shortly, Harris teeter, and small other places you can walk too , jogg to , grab a coffeee and relax. IT is fantastic palce to live, and with easy access 5 minutes drive to get on 540 is awesome. Neighborhood is mostly built out, so no new construction headaches to deal with. its great all around. You wil lLOVE it.
WE have been livign ther efor 3.5 years and we do not think airplace nois eis any big deal, we barely even notice it really.

I'm in Carpenter Village, which has a much worse impact from the airplane noise than Cary Park from what I understand. It can be loud when a plane is directly overhead and you are outside. I mainly notice it if I'm reading on our screened in porch or if I'm at the pool. Inside the house, I've only noticed planes maybe a dozen times in over 2 years.
To me, given that RTP is right next to the airport, it was a choice of a crappy commute or putting up with the noise every once in a while. Was an easy choice for me. The noise is nothing compared to living near train tracks, which I've had very close to me at other places I've lived. At my last house, the Amtrak would actually shake the house.

I'm a 4 year Cary Park Resident. I live at the "back" of the neighborhood (The Yates Store Road end). The airplanes don't bother us one bit. If they are taking off to the southwest (toward the neighborhood) they have enough altitude by the time they get over us that they are pretty faint sounding, and if they are landing toward the northeast (toward the airport) they are pretty much coasting in.
We looked at Carpenter Village before we bought in Cary Park and the noise there was MUCH worse.
Weldon Ridge should be at least as quiet as Cary Park. Cameron Pond is noisier because it is further east toward the airport.

I realize the OP posted this 4 months ago - but since the thread was brought back from the dead - I figured why not add some more useful content.
The above graphic was created based on the maps that Mike posted. Weldon Ridge is out of the last noise contour - but you'd definitely still hear some planes there. How bad it is depends on how sensitive you are to it.

We have lived within 7 miles or so from Dulles International airport in Northern Virginia for the last 7 years, and have never been bothered by the noise. Yes, some of the larger jets/international flights are really noisy, but it's only every once in a while that you really even notice.
I guess in my opinion airplane noise has been a non-issue. That said, there are some neighborhoods much closer to the airport than ours, and I'm not sure I would want to be that close!
