My DH wanted me to come here and ask if anyone knows if there is a size limit on outdoor structures (a shed) in Cary. He said someone told him 144 sq ft, but based on the Town of cary website, it looks 144 sq ft is allowed without having to get a permit.
I can always call the town of Cary, but thought I'd check and see if anyone here knew.

If I recall, I could have sworn that 144sqft was the "break point" to require a permit for the state. I'd check with local code enforcement for clarification.
However, on that note, "code" is the minimum... so depending on how conservative a particular neighborhood or municipality may be about these sort of things, it may be prudent to pull a permit regardless for basic "CYA"
Good luck!

Lamishra,
Permits and inspections can confirm or clarify, but IIRC:
The metric in Cary is that you must permit a shed when it is larger than 12 feet on any side.
12x12...on the ground... No permit needed. It can be wood floor on skids or concrete slab on the ground.
You can build larger than 12' on one or both sides, but will need to permit it, including a survey and location of the shed designated.
