When the builders no longer need the furniture in the model homes, what do they do with it? Do they sell it to the public? My aunt lives in Illinois, and all of the builders there put the furniture they use to stage houses (after they've finished with a subdivision) into a huge warehouse and the public can buy the pieces. I was wondering if there was such a place in the Raleigh or Durham area.

Couple of things I've seen locally is: sell the model home furnished or I think it used to be Centex that would hold an auction for their employees to buy the model home furnishings when they were done with them.

There was also a recent thread on here about a place in Durham that has clearance sales a few times a month for the leftover furniture. Model Home Interiors :: Home I haven't checked the place out yet but it sounds like there could be some good deals.

Centex recently held an auction in Grandale. The auction was staged in the home on Lyons Farm that was on the Homebuilders' tour last October. This auction was open to the public, and advertisement flyers were sent out to all the homeowners in Grandale.
