We have 3 adopted girls from Asia. I was not aware that you don't have to deal with local agencies when considering any adoption plan. Even domestic adoptions don't have to be done thru an agency close to your home. A Home Study can be done by any licensed social worker and any agency will help you find that person. So don't limit yourself to only agencies you consider local. Hope this helps.

We've adopted one child and are on a waiting list for a second. We are using the Gladney agency, which is located in Fort Worth TX. They contract with a local social worker to do the home studies, in fact we have one next Wed. Our first adoption sailed through in 10 months in comparison to this second one. We've been on the list for 25 months.

Are you considering local adoption or international? We adopted from Russia in 2006 with Adoption Ark in Il, however, our homestudy HAD to be done by an agency licensed in North Carolina. Our homestudy agency is International Adoption Guides located near Charlotte. Adoption is a long process but the outcome is "priceless"

Thank you all. We are looking Domestic, but I really don't want to get wrapped up in an agency when I could possibly work with a referral, kwim? Your thoughts?
