I just got a job in Fayetteville at Fort Bragg, and live in Cary. I love living in Cary, and really despise Fayetteville and would prefer to not live there, but Mapquest is saying it takes an hour and 40 minutes to drive one way, even though it's only 82 miles and most of it's on 40 and 95. Anybody know if that's a correct estimate, and is it even worse during rush hour?
My brother in law lives in the Clayton/Garner area near Hwy. 42 and works in Fayetteville. He says it takes him about an hour to get there in the AM and about an hour to get home in the PM; however, he leaves pretty early in the morning and he says there is very little traffic.
My neighbor in Holly Springs works there and I believe he says it takes him about 45-50 minutes on 401. I Googled the 401 route and it is about 43 miles (Google says 1 hour 1 minute).
My parents met me in Raleigh yesterday and they came out 401. It took them about an 1 1/2. I am sure that is local with lights and 40 to 95 is probably quicker since it is highway. Get some books on CD and enjoy the ride. It will work out well for you.
Don't go the 95 route if you can help it. I live 5 mins from Bragg in the Spring Lake area. When I go to Crabtree it takes me less than an hour, probably 45 mins tops. It is easier to drive through Spring Lake/Sanford then hop on US-1 to get to Raleigh as opposed to driving south through Fayetteville, then go back north up I-95.
Can anyone recommend a good route from the Holly Springs area to Fort Bragg, I am thinking of moving to Holly Springs as it seems to be the only nice community within driving distance of F-ville. The particular area of Fort Bragg where I will be working is near the corner of Butner and Reiley Rd, and I will be working from 8 to 4:30, so I would like to find a route that has the least traffic at those times.
My best friends parents both work at Fr. Bragg but live in Sunset Ridge in Holly Springs.
I'll ask if I can remember and get back to you with the best route...
I live in Holly Springs and it takes me about 45 minutes to get to the Butner Road Gate. Take US 401 to NC 210. NC 210 turns into Bragg Boulevard and Butner Road Gate is right there after Spring Lake. It is a very pleasant drive with no traffic.
I know this isn't an apples-to-apples comparison, but just as another data point: I commute from Sanford to East Raleigh and it is a reliable 40-45 minute drive.
