I don't understand why anyone would want strangers to come into their house and charge a fortune. Why not buy a top-of-the-line steam cleaner and do it yourself? We have dogs, and I can't imagine living without it.
I agree. I would do it myself if I weren't pregnant. But we're thinking about installing laminate later this year (it all depends on how carpet looks after it's cleaned). So spending money on a steam cleaner isn't idea at this point. We'll probably rent one after the baby arrives.
We had ours done when we moved in... it was $150 or so for a 3000 sq ft house. I can try to find his name, but I seem to remember he was out of Cary. He did a great job.
Should have mentioned to those asking "why not do it yourself": because it's a royal pain and because it's for a rental.

Be careful using the steam cleaners if you have wood sub-floors. Water + wood = big problems especially if water gets trapped underneath the carpet which can lead to mold and other problems. Carpet dry cleaning is just as effective but without the risk of mold or water damage to the sub-flooring.
Has anyone had their carpet dry-cleaned? I have been looking in to this but I can't find any information on how safe it is for children and dogs, etc...
