Mike, thanks for this link! Never heard of it and will definitely try it! And I'll bite - who is Greg Cox?
"I'll bite."
Good one...
Greg Cox writes restaurant reviews for the N&O (http://www.newsobserver.com/lifestyles/dining_clubs/restaurants/ - broken link).
He is, depending on your perspective, either blessed or cursed with a more sensitive palate than I possess.
Thanks for the information. I guess a question I have, since there doesn't seem to be a lot of options in that area, is where do people who live in those neighborhoods go to eat? Raleigh or Durham maybe?

Well, I guess it may be more about how you phrased your question. You asked for (good, preferrably non-chain) restaurants in west or northwest Cary. In my opinion, west Cary would be anything west of 55. Northwest Cary would be west of this and north of High House. There ain't really much out there yet. There are restaurants along 55 and restaurants along Davis. The people that live out west of 55 probably go into Morrisville or Cary, go down to Apex (Beaver Creek Commons), or go north to SW Durham (Streets of Southpoint). Everything that has been mentioned so far has been in these areas.
No, the place is not a check-cashing place. It's a restaurant called Klara's, with a mostly Czech menu.
lol
Maggiano's in Southpoint is pretty good and true to the original one in Chicago.
