Can anyone recommend one? I've been trying to find water test results from streams in Orange and/or Durham counties but I haven't been successful yet.

The Eno River used to have a Fair each year. I'm not sure they still do that but I do remember seeing kids and adults wading in the River. Maybe something like this?

Yep - the Eno River is your spot. There are some good spots at West Point on the Eno Park to play, and there's also Few's Ford at the Cole Mill Road access in Eno River State Park.

There is a large festival over the Independence Day holiday each year; Festival for the Eno. 30th annual Festival for the Eno

And it's really hot. Every year. So hot. But fun. And hot.

This is probably a "drive" for you, but my kids love wading into the little stream in Schenk Forest in Raleigh. It's ankle deep (maybe mid-calf on a child in some places) with and wide enough to walk into the middle, with slow moving clear water with sandy little "beaches" (for lack of a better word) and smooth pretty pebbles to toss into the water.
We thought it was a wonderful place and will be back once the weather heats up!

There's a park right in Chapel Hill we used to play in, real close to the Police Station off of Martin Luther King, but I can't remember the name. Maybe Umstead Park?

Thank you everyone for your replies- this is really helpful. I've been to Schenck but wasn't sure how clean it was, I thought maybe it was more of a "run-off" type of stream. I bet it's the same stream that runs through Umstead Park. I used to take my dogs there when they were allowed but they are no longer welcomed there.

Does anyone know how filthy/clean Bolin Creek is? I've seen it looking pretty nasty in some spots but love the trails there and the fact that dogs are welcomed there too.

I guess it all depends on the rain we're getting. If we have a lot of heavy rains we'll have a lot of sediment/mud in the water. If it hasn't rained in a week the water should be more shallow and clear. Good luck...sounds like fun!
