Hi Friends
well, we've been on the forum since we arrived July 07' and we found the home of our dreams. It's on an acre in Wake Forest so now we need to re-purchase all the items we left behind. We didn't have a sitting lawn mover but now we need one.

Besides the obvious, like Craig's list, any ideas where we could get a used mower?

Thanks so much my Forum Friends.

Thumbs up ;)

Congrats on finding your dream home! I can't help with where to look for a riding lawn mower outside of Home Depot or Lowes but I thought I might suggest you try to "go green" with your lawn mowing efforts! lol

If you have the money to do so, I'd recommend buying new. I've gone the used route before, and usually have to replace it after a year because it is worn out. Most people don't take care of their mowers, and you never know what you are getting. In the long run it is cheaper to buy a new one and make sure to maintain it so it lasts for a long time.

As a teenager I would mow my parent's 3+ acres with a walk behind rotary mower. Not even a self-propelled walk behind!

Now you know why I have no desire for a yard any larger than the standard subdivision sized lot.

But to answer your initial question, try some of the companies which sell new lawn mowers and yard tractors. They often have used equipment they received as trade-ins.

There is a company named Stihl(I think) right on capital. They rent out machinery. Sometimes they have some of their equipment up for sale. You might want to check with them.

Also if you're going to have to go the new route (which I too would recommend), check out Sears. They often have some really big sales on their riding mowers. My husband & I also have an acre in Wake Forest and bought ours from Sears last year.

Sears is having a sale now until april 3rd or so on their lawn stuff (mowers, grills, etc). The 'normal' walk behind mowers are around $200 to $300. Not sure about the rider ones. Grills for those of you who are interested, vary between $200 and $1000. They had a great deal on their last year's clearance grills for $40 off or so (from memory), but those are gone. Anyway the discounts are about 10 to 20%, and the store in Southpoint had about 20-30 grills and same number of lawn mowers.
