Hi everyone--
I recently came out 2 years ago. I am new to the gay/lesbian scene in North Carolina and I wanted to get more information. Is there a large population of lesbians in the Raleigh area? If so where can I meet other women like me?

I've heard good things about Legends, but have never been there and it doesn't look like the website has been updated in while. http://www.legends-club.com/home/navigate.html (broken link)

There's a little place on West Peace Street called (and I'm not making this up): "The L Club".
I'm guessing this is just the place for you!

Durham is where you want to go!
For some reason, lesbians and the t-folk seem to gravitate towards Durham, while gay males tend to live it up in Raleigh. For the female "family", I recommend hanging out on Ninth Street (there's plenty of "family" around those parts).
I also recommend checking out Visions in downtown Durham. As is the case with many a lesbian bar in many a city, the experiences there can range from very good to very bad (depending on how much of a drama magnet you are).
Chapel Hill is notoriously liberal, but has had less success with keeping a decent gay bar open. Who knows why?
If you don't mind hanging out with the guys, I highly recommend Legends (which has been around since before you were born, the Grandaddy of gay clubs in this area) and CC (Capital Corral).
Have fun!

The "L" Club at the corner of Peace and Glenwood in Downtown Raleigh.
"Club Visions" somewhere in Downtown Durham.
If you want to be with the fellas, you have Legends, CC, and Flex in Downtown Raleigh's warehouse district. Ringside is somewhere in Downtown Durham.
Be careful in Durham though. Three people have been shot by stray bullets within the past couple of weeks. A 14 year old girl died yesterday. She got shot while sitting in an SUV. Some 14 year old boy got shot in the leg while crossing the street like a week ago. And some man got shot in the back of the head.

Yep! Visions in Durham, The L Club in Raleigh, Legends (if you dont mind a mix of men) in Raleigh..across the street from Legends is CC's (Capital Corral) which I always found to be an older mix. One or two blocks over is the gay & lesbian bookstore called "White Rabbit", they have a website, just google it.
For more links on all the bars, check out:

TriangleGrrrls is a forum pretty much like this one for the gay gals in the Triangle area. I definately recommend checking them out!
www.trianglegrrrls.com
They have alot of social gatherings coming up, etc.
Also, Melissa Ferrick (gay indie singer/songwriter) will be performing at the Lincoln Theatre in Raleigh on Friday, April 20 at 8 pm.
DEFINATELY CHECK HER OUT!
(She will literally, blow your mind!)

Hope that helps!
Welcome to the Triangle!

Well, probably the town's size for one, but another theory is the college crowd. Whether you're gay or straight, once you hit 25 or so, going to clubs full of college kids gets tired pretty fast.

I think you got those two backwards...CC was around since the 70s, Legends since the early 90s (but is now the larger one).

I wouldn't worry too much about the shootings. They are all pretty localized to the eatern side of downtown more so between Alston and Miami. Not where most of the restaurants and clubs are near Brightleaf

I would check out Club Steel Blue. It's the new hot spot in town. It is in Durham off of Hwy 70. Here is the link- http://www.clubsteelblue.com/
Have fun!
