Yes, it's wonderful that Christians are able to celebrate...but is there any reason to be rude to the many other faiths or those that are not religious, while you go about it?
I wouldn't really call myself "Christian", but I can't recall where anyone has been "rude" to anyone of any faith here?

The James Taylor user name (because the Gods know that poster certainly isn't him) has put on several threads the 'as it should be' in regards to Easter.
That is just...well....wrong. It is how it 'should be' for Christians...but not everyone is Christian.....it comes across very rude.

Really, we go out with our lives, we pay taxes, we support the local economy just as much as the dominate religion of the area.
I agree things should be closed on the major holidays that the majority of people celebrate.
Think of all those lower-paid service industry workers who tend to work evenings & weekends... if the stores are open they don't get a break!
Even if you do not celebrate the major holidays you should consider the people who do, who may not have much of a choice in their working hours.
I also find it wierd. UNC was closed on Friday, never had that happen. In texas at most we would be released 2 hours early (and they made it clear they were being very generous with that).
But like the rest of the community, I'm not looking a gift horse in the mouth.
That's funny that Good Friday considered a state holiday, bc I work at NCSU and didn't get the day off. I'm not Christian, but would welcome any extra days off from work as well!

I understand your point, but I still don't see why I am able to be off on Easter, but not Independence Day.
I don't know to what lower-paid workers you speak of, but since I work in the retail industry, I should say that I find it strange that I get a break on a religious holiday, but not the birth of our nation.

When I was in retail, we did get a holiday the week of July 4, though the store was open so someone had to work--those folks still got an extra day off that week, though. Same with Memorial Day, Labor Day, and New Year's Day. Actually many hourly employees requested to work those days because it was time and a half.

Probably because retailers have figured out that most people will shop on the 4th of July, but not on Easter weekend. They only have the bottom line in mind -- it's not like they sit around and debate religion vs. political freedoms. I imagine that the decision = open when people spend money; close when they don't.

I meant retail and food service, as opposed to white collar jobs that are mostly Mon-Fri. (before you flame me, I have worked in both industries)
Year round schools will be open on Memorial Day this year. I am annoyed by that.
Is it such a big deal to have days from time to time where we can jsut relax & not be out spending $$$$$ ?
