Yes you do get what you pay for. But no matter how much you pay, you should expect and GET clean facilities. Doesnt matter if you pay $1/month or $100/month. You pay for the frills. I pay $10/month, go to Planet Fitness and am perfectly happy with the lack of "barbie dolls" walking around in their skimpy outfits. People are there to work out....period. Works for me!

That's a pretty good deal! Did you have to pay for a year up front?

Lifetime Fitness in Cary...bit more than most but you get what you pay for. Also, no contracts. Extremely clean, every amenity you can think of, and 24/7. I have been to cheaper gyms just geared towards working out, and they are great for that, but wanted the whole package this time now that I have kids (they come with me quite a bit). The pools and activities are astounding!

Nope. I think most of the time they want a $69 processing fee but they are always having specials where you dont have to pay anything. That was what I did. It is a very basic gym but that is all I was looking for. They have a lot of machines. They have a set up in one corner sort of like the setup they have at Curves (for women) and a huge cardio section. Then all of the nautilus machines. They have lots of stations for you to get cleaner to wash off the machines after you are done. If you want to pay $20/month, you get to use the tanning booths. Also they have some classes for no charge (even with the $10/month) where they tell you which machines to use for what you want to work on. I have never waited to use a machine and I usually go in the early evenings. They are open 7 days a week too which is nice.

Yeah I'd sign up for Lifetime fitness but its just inconvenient to my work and home.
They really need to make some more Gyms on the NW Side of Cary (Near Highway 55 and Carpenter Firestation Rd) or around RTP

I miss the Planet Fitness in Greensboro. They wanted $19 to sign me up, the gym was clean, equipment in great shape, the staff was nice, the music they played was awesome (I hate fussing w/ mp3 players), and it really was easy to cancel when I moved to Durham. Wish they'd open a branch near me!

Two posts about Lifetime Fitness so far but no mention of the monthly fee there. Isn't Lifetime Fitness pricey?

I was paying $20/mo for a gym here in Wilmington... then one day it just shut down. They had sent me a letter 2 weeks prior, asking me to renew 1 year for about $200. They took a lot of peoples' money. Buyer beware!
