Can those with knowledge on the subject expand a little on Hillsborough's school options? Thanks!

I grew up across the street from Hardscrabble in a small neighborhood adjacent to the lake lots. Hardscarbble and the area is really nice and a quick drive to the Sportsplex and downtown Hillsborough. It is in Durham County with Durham County schools. They are some of the best, but I still understand your concerns. I don't know how old your child is, but there will be a new middle school in the next few years, which will probably be one of the best in the county. I am guessing Hardscrabble will be assigned to the new middle school since it is assigned to Little River. Little River is by far one of the best elementary schools in the area. Carrington and Northern were the best schools in the county when I went there in the 90's (Northern rated higher than Riverside at the time). I cannot comment on them now since I do not have children there, but from what I hear they are still some of the better ones in the county. You can also consider Durham School of the Arts which has a really great middle and high school program.

Funny, since the Durham schools in the area are generally considered to be much better

Better than what? Other Durham schools? Not trying to provoke, just trying to clarify.
