Does anyone know who are these folks are? They've been collecting change for the last two weeks....
Just wondering as it seems so "unCarylike" (props for new word) and I have not had the pleasure of stopping due to the annoyance of my light being green......
It says "help feed homeless children" drove by it today. They are annoying and aggressive as hell with trying to get money. The same type of people do this at Miami Blvd and 70 in Durham (but have not be around in about 6 months). They don't say what organization they are with though, just some small sign on the bucket.
I would be very leery of people like this. When I was a cop I knew a State Trooper in Virginia, who said that they were having problems with people like this along cities and towns of I-95. Well it turns out that he witnessed one of these "help insert organization here" people harrassing a person and he lined up all 8 of them at this intersection and ran their ID's, etc. Most of them had warrents out for their arrest. Turns out it was a group of convicts that would go back and forth on 95 all the way up and down the east coast and pull the same scam on people.
Bottom line, I give no money to anyone regardless of who they say they are.
I have seen this kind of activity before (although not at the subject location in particular). I wonder, do they need some kind of permit for this? I am curious.
I was at the stop light the other day and one of the woman doing this actually opened the car door of two young woman in the car to my side. The passenger immediately got on her cell phone. The women had to drive off with their door open. I had my kids in the car and they were really freaked out and I had to assure them that our doors were locked.
I called the Raleigh police (non-emergency number). In Raleigh, a permit is required. It costs $$, and then they give them some sort of light reflective vest so they improve their chances of not getting hit by a car.
I asked if the person was harassing you for money, is that something you can call the police on them for. He said absolutely.
Years ago, in Raleigh, I called the police about someone on the street asking for money, and the officer ended up giving the guy on the street MY NUMBER, and the guy CALLED ME UP and called me by name, saying repeatedly, "I don't mean no harm..."
