We've decided to take a trip to the beach tomorrow--what's the closest beach that would be good for a short daytrip? how long does it take to get there? Any lunch restaurant recommendations?

The closest beaches to most parts of the Triangle are either Wrightsville Beach or Topsail Island, both about 2h 15m from N. Raleigh or Cary.

Sorry, I don't know anwhere to recommend for lunch.

The quickest one to get to is Wrightsville, only about 2 hours away. Haven't been there in years. Surf City and Topsail Beach are only a little further and in my opinion are a much nicer day trip.

On a Monday Wrightsville might be OK. On a weekend, I'd never do it as a day trip because you'd have to get there in the early early morning to be able to park. The Oceanic is nice for lunch.

I would also suggest Dockside.

Parking is easier(cheaper) in Topsail/Surf City rather than Wrightsville. But Wrightsville is nicer for more beachside conveniences.

I was at Wrightsville Saturday, we found parking and it was nice.

I'm a day late and a dollar short, but my wife and I enjoy Day trips to Wrightsville Beach in the summer. We usually park and hit the beach in the vicinity of The Oceanic reastaurant and go there at the end of the day for an inexpensive meal. I love the view of the beach from that restaurant. I plan to check out the Dockside in the future based on the suggestions above.

I haven't been in a while, but we used to go to King Neptune on Wrightsville Beach.
